A library podcast? What’s that?! Libraries are always striving to reach their audiences wherever their audiences may be. Podcasts can be a part of a library’s social media strategy in reaching a wider audience. Podcasts can be downloaded or streamed at any time, making them great companions for daily commutes, housework and exercise. At WPL we decided to start a monthly “book club” podcast called 'Time to Read', in which four hosts discuss a book each month, and answer questions from our library community. At the Manitoba Libraries Conference, recorded our first “Live” podcast in front of the MLC audience. We discuss the history of our podcast, including some of the challenges we faced starting a podcast. We also leave time for questions from the audience.

Relationships can be complicated and confusing. No, this isn't a self-help session. We will talk about relationships between collections and the communities we serve. How do we use our limited funds to purchase material that will get used the most? What do our customers want most out of our collections and how do we create realistic goals and objectives to meet this demand? This session will provide practical advice on how we can use statistics to delveop a responsible approach to collection management.

Erotic fiction and erotica have traditionally had a small place in public library collections. However, the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey has brought attention and demand for these collections in a way we've never seen before. We will explore the differences betwen romance, erotic fiction, erotica, and pornography, and review and recommend popular authors and publishing houses. We will provide information and suggestions for professional and social media review sources, as well as other tools you can use for reader's advisory. Finally, we will explore what policies we should have in place to safeguard community standards, address any possible objections, and maintain our commitment to defending intellectual freedom.
