Summer Reading Club Book Bingo

Description

For our kids' summer reading challenge at Red Deer Public Library, we format it as a Book Bingo sheet! Challenges are a mix of reading challenges and challenges that get participants up and moving. This year, we also tried to choose more activities which fit with our theme of "Grow a Reader". Kids get a free book prize after completing 4 rows in any direction, with two chances for prizes over the summer. This year, we are also adding a bonus prize for kids who complete a blackout. Additionally, we translate our English Book Bingo so that we have a French version available as well. Our Book Bingo was a huge success last year and overall it is very easy to put together!

Mission Remote Summer Reading Club: Explore Our Universe

Description

In light of ongoing physical distancing, PRPL has envisioned this year’s SRC as a FREE pick-up-and-go package jam packed with seven weeks of out-of-this-world fun designed to engage school-aged children, ages 5-14, with libraries and reading, throughout the summer! We thought we would share our seven Mission Activity sheets and printables with all our library friends. The BC SRC page is loaded with great activities this year, but maybe you're still looking for more. These activities will also work for any other kind of space-based program.

Visit PRPL’s YouTube to watch weekly demos of our package activities, many of which are made using simple materials that you can gather at home. Visit PRPL's website for weekly mission tips, links and bonus challenges.

Summer Reading Challenge - Pirate Map 2016

Description

Due to lack of registration for in-library programming in 2016, we decided to only run a Reading Challenge and our regularly scheduled story time during the summer of 2016.

The kids earned stickers for every book they read in the summer, and every time they hit a treasure chest they would get a prize, when they completed the map, they would get a bigger prize! This was a 72 book challenge. We only had 4 kids finish the entire map.
